How do you know if you are buying the best Reishi?

Keys to choosing a quality supplement
Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) is one of the most valued mushrooms in traditional medicine and also by modern science. Used for millennia in Asia to promote longevity and calm, it is now known to contain compounds with immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and adaptogenic effects.
But if you're thinking about buying Reishi, there's something important you should know: not all products are the same.
The market is full of capsules and powders that claim to contain “Reishi”… but how do you know if you’re choosing the best Reishi?
Here we give you the keys:
1. Extract or just powder?
Many cheap products are simply ground powder from the dried mushroom, which provides flavor and color, but very few real benefits. The human body cannot absorb the active compounds well without a prior extraction process.
The best Reishi is always an extract: at NUALAT we use a 20:1 dual extraction (hot water + ethanol), which releases and concentrates the key active ingredients: triterpenes, β-glucans and polysaccharides.
2. What part of the mushroom is used?
The Reishi mushroom has two parts: the mycelium (its roots) and the fruiting body (the visible mushroom). Many products use mycelium grown on grain, which reduces the cost but reduces the effectiveness and can leave residue from the substrate (rice, corn, oats, etc.).
👉 At NUALAT, we only use 100% pure fruiting bodies, without mycelium or additives. This is the medicinal part of the mushroom, containing the highest concentration of biofunctional active ingredients.
3. Laboratory validated quality
Has the supplement been tested? Do they publish the analyses? The best Reishi should guarantee the absence of heavy metals, pesticides, and contaminants.
👉 At NUALAT, we analyze each batch in certified independent laboratories (Eurofins, RINP) and publish the results. What you see on the label is what you get: no smoke, no fillers, no gimmicks.
4. Actual concentration of active compounds
A product may say "extract" on the label, but if it's not standardized, you can't tell if it contains therapeutic levels of the compounds that actually work. The best Reishi always indicates how many triterpenes and β-glucans it contains per dose.
👉 Our NUALAT Reishi extract is highly concentrated and validated to contain one of the highest amounts of triterpenes on the market. This guarantees a real, measurable effect backed by research.
5. How to check the quality of Reishi at home?
Here's a very simple home experiment to compare the quality of Reishi powder:
- Hot water color test:
- Heat 200 ml of water to about 90 °C.
- Add 1 gram of the Reishi you have.
- Stir for 1 minute and let stand for 3.
- Observe the color of the liquid:
A good extract: darkens the water deeply, reddish or dark brown, almost like strong tea. A ground powder without extraction: changes the color only slightly, or leaves a light beige hue.
If the powder floats a lot, smells like cereal, or has little color, you're probably looking at mycelium mixed with ground grain, not extract.
